Ooey, Gooey, Goodness

I'm one of those bakers that has to get inspired. I also like LOTS of directions. When I discovered Pioneer Woman's blog I knew what it meant. I had a new hobby. Beautiful pictures, desserts so bad for you they are downright sinful, and directions that make even the most novice baker feel confident enough to try.

Something in this winter weather makes me feel like baking with yeast. Already we made some delicious challah bread thanks to Tammyrecipes. Yesterday and today were spent in the kitchen with Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls. At first, I was leery. It made 7 pans of cinnamon rolls!! But then she recommended making them for neighbors. Perfect! I love my neighbors and miss them when the cold weather forces us inside. A perfect reason to stop by unannounced. The ingredients are hilarious. 9 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, 2 LBS!!! of powdered sugar, and at least 4 sticks of butter, and we musn't forget a quart of WHOLE milk.

Yesterday, when I told Grant we were going to make cinnamon rolls the first thing he did was run to pull out a flat sheet. He thought cinnamon rolls meant pop the can, plop them on a sheet and into the oven, and 15 minutes later is ooey, gooey goodness. But I had other ideas for my little man and he seemed a little bummed that Mommy's idea would take two days before it was done!
Grant really got into the rolling out of the dough. Use up some of that pent up energy baby:-)The recipe called for a "virile" man to stir the icing. Thank goodness I had one standing by in the wings to help.Baby brothers did receive extra loving during the making of the rolls.Straight out of the oven (pre-icing), yummy goodness.Perfect winter treat after playing in the snow for awhile and hand delivering to neighbors.

Was it worth it? Definitely. BUT, I will say that Kroger has refrigerated rolls on sale for $.50 after coupons this week and this Momma plans on stocking up:-)

If you ever get an irresistable urge for chocolate pudding that will fill you up for a lifetime, try her pots de creme. They are always a huge hit, but they are so rich that I haven't made them in over a year and it will probably be another year before I make them again

I love the pictures of your boys helping in the kitchen! So sweet. Looks like a fun time. Also .. I've been thinking of the cinnamon rolls since you mentioned them on fb when you were trying to decide between that and challah. I think I may have to try these out. Also .. what happened to me getting back to you about the Bumbo seat? I'm sort of an airhead like that. Would you like to bring your boys over to play some morning in the next couple of weeks? I can give you your seat back and enjoy the company, too! :)

Thanks for recomendation Katie. I am the only one who eats chocolate in my house though. Not sure my backside can take an entire batch;-)

Melissa - make them! They were fun, and who doesn't love fresh pastries?:-) About the playdate, do you ever have Tuesdays free? Grant is in preschool MWF and I take a Bible Study on Thursdays. I am thinking your neighbor/friend usually comes on Tues. though . I would love for it to work though so let me know:-)

I can always change days with Hannah, or just skip a week. Just let me know a Tuesday that is free for you in the nearby future and we'll plan on it!
